VisionLens is an iPhone-only wellness and awareness app published by BEREST Software. It helps parents run preliminary at-home vision screening checks for their children. VisionLens is not a medical device and its results do not constitute a diagnosis, prescription, or substitute for professional eye care. The app processes the following data to deliver its features: • Child profile information you enter (first name or nickname, birth year, whether the child wears glasses, avatar icon) • Camera and face tracking signals during a scan session • Scan results (summary score bands and session metadata) • Subscription and entitlement state • Device and usage diagnostics All screening is performed on the child's behalf by a parent or legal guardian, who is the sole user of the app.
A vision screening session uses the iPhone's front-facing TrueDepth camera together with Apple's ARKit and Vision frameworks to measure signals such as gaze direction, fixation, smooth pursuit, pupillary distance, corneal reflex, and Brückner-style red reflex response. All camera frames and face-tracking data are processed live, on-device, and are not uploaded to BEREST Software or any third party. Raw video, photos, depth maps, and facial geometry never leave the device. Only numerical result summaries (such as an aggregate band and simple per-test metrics) are saved locally in the app's SwiftData database so you can revisit earlier sessions. You can revoke camera access at any time from iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera > VisionLens. Without camera access the scanning features cannot run.
VisionLens is intended to be used by a parent or legal guardian on behalf of their child. The app is not directed at children and is not designed for independent use by children. We intentionally minimize the data we process about a child: • We ask for a first name or nickname, birth year, and whether the child currently wears glasses. We do not request surnames, birth dates, addresses, ID numbers, or contact details for the child. • Child profile data and scan history are stored only in the app's local database on the parent's device and, where the parent has enabled iCloud, inside the parent's private iCloud container. BEREST Software does not receive, store, or have any access to this data. • A parent can delete a child profile at any time from within the app; deletion removes all associated scan sessions via cascading delete. VisionLens is designed to comply with the children's privacy principles of the Apple App Store, GDPR / GDPR-K, and, where applicable, COPPA.
VisionLens provides wellness and awareness information only. It is not a medical device, is not FDA cleared, not CE-marked as a medical device, and is not intended to diagnose, cure, treat, or prevent any disease or condition, including amblyopia, strabismus, refractive errors, or any ophthalmologic disorder. Result bands shown in the app (for example "looks typical", "worth rechecking", or "consider a professional exam") are heuristic signals meant to help parents decide whether to seek a full eye examination from a qualified professional. They are not a substitute for such an examination. If you have any concern about your child's vision, please consult a licensed optometrist or ophthalmologist.
To understand how the app is discovered and used, VisionLens uses Meta's Facebook SDK for attribution and lightweight product analytics. Events we log are schema-stable and intentionally coarse, for example: app activated, profile created, paywall shown, trial started, subscription started, and scan completed (with only the aggregate result band — never raw metrics or images). On iOS, any tracking that uses the IDFA identifier is gated by Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt. If you decline tracking, Meta's SDK runs without IDFA and is used only for basic, non-tracking app events and conversion measurement as permitted by Apple. You can change your choice at any time from iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking. We do not sell personal data. We do not transmit camera frames, face geometry, or individual scan results for advertising.
VisionLens offers auto-renewing subscriptions and, where available, a one-time lifetime purchase. All payments are processed by Apple through StoreKit 2 and the App Store; BEREST Software does not receive or store your payment card details. Your Apple ID, transaction identifiers, and subscription state are handled under Apple's privacy policy. The app validates your subscription entitlement with Apple's StoreKit and caches the result locally to unlock premium scanning features. No other account, login, or personal identifier is required to use VisionLens.
Because VisionLens stores child profiles and scan sessions only on your device (and, optionally, in your private iCloud), you are in full control of retention: • Deleting a child profile removes all associated scan sessions. • Uninstalling VisionLens removes all locally stored data. If iCloud sync is enabled, you can additionally remove the app's iCloud data from iOS Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Manage Account Storage. • BEREST Software has no server-side copy of child profiles, scan images, or scan metrics and therefore cannot recover this data once deleted.
